Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has warned the Asante Kotoko management to refrain from begging for financial support from wealthy individuals and groups to run the club.

The Opoku Nti-led management has been forced on countless times to beg for financial support from mostly affluent sympathizers of the Kumasi-based club to keep the club going.

This practice has given some wealthy individuals immense influence in the club’s decision-making process with some of them even imposing their preferences.

One of such financiers of Kotoko Dr. Kwaku Frimpong only last month attempted to impose the appointment of Danish Tommy Moller Nielsen as technical director of the club – a move which was vehemently rejected by management.

Club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has now ordered club executives to make him the first point of call when in need of financial help.

“We hear that certain individuals claim they have been giving monies to Kotoko and thus become influential in decision making,” personal assistant to the Chief of Staff at Manhyia Aboagye Mensah told Nhyira FM.

“The owner made it clear he dislikes this practice and asked management to come to him anytime they need any kind of help especially with money.

“The club is his and even if he has to acquire loans in his name for the club, he will do it.”

Meanwhile the club owner is still yet to confirm former Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour as the new president of Asante Kotoko.

The former Bayern Munich star in an interview with Metro TV confirmed he has been handed the job even before it is made official.
