Black Queens Coach demands $5000 balance payment

Coach Yusif Basigi is demanding a balance payment of $5000 for leading Ghana to clinch a historic gold in Women’s soccer at the 2015 All Africa Games.

Basigi was rightly handed $10,000 by officials of the Sports Ministry acting on instructions given by President John Mahama to have the initial $2000 reward for the team topped up to $5000.

National team coaches by practice receive twice the bonuses handed to players – meaning with $5000 paid to each player of the victorious Black Queens, coach Yusif Basigi is entitled a $10,000 payment.

But officials recovered $5000 from the $10,000 paid to the coach – claiming it was a mistake to give him the double payment since the President’s order was $5000 en bloc.

The Hasaacas Ladies’ coach now says the right thing must be done with the payment of the $5000 balance to him.

‘’Yes it is true that I was given $10,000 when the payment was ongoing but I was later asked to give $5000 back to the chief accountant without any reason” Basigi told Nhyira FM.

“They told me I am the first they beginning this with but I don’t think it’s fair and so I demand the remaining $5000 because this is unheard off.”

It is unclear at this point whether the Ghana FA will intervene to have the coach’s due paid.

Relations between the GFA and the Sports Ministry has increasingly broken down since the Black Stars’ disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup.
