Ashanti Gold and Black Stars shot stopper, Fatau Dauda has admitted the competition his side had to go through before winning the First Capital Plus Bank Premier league.

The Miners started the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League on a winsome note but during the course of the season they were given a stiff competition by 2009/10 premier league champions, Aduana Stars and it got to a point they nearly relinquished their first position on the log sheet after dropping vital points.

But the ‘Aboakese Kese’ lads kept their composure and held on to win the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League which happened to be their first premiership title in 19 years.

And Fatau Dauda who joined the miners mid way into the season after terminating his contract at PSL side, Chippa Utd has admitted the competition his side had to go through before winning the Ghana premier league for the first time in 19 years.

“I’ve never won a league in Ghana before. Now that I’ve won one; I realized how tedious it’s in winning the league, especially to the coaches and the playing bodies who have once annexed the trophy before,” Dauda told Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

The former Okwawu Utd shot stopper added: “Some clubs are here in Ghana and can never be relegated. I haven’t mentioned any name but one club in particular, before you play them as host; you’ll already be discouraged as you know the kind of venue you are to play in.

“Before you can win a league in Ghana, you must always bear in mind that irrespective of where you’ll play, you must always sacrifice. Leagues are not only won at home, but away matches also do count. Kotoko and Hearts were in the past winning home and away matches and so they were able to win the league most often. In all, I’ve now come and recognized that it takes a roller coaster journey in winning the league”.

Ashanti Gold finished the season at the first position with 52 points and the second placed team Aduana Stars had 46.
