'Media pressure spurred us to title Glory'

Communication director of Ashgold FC, Kofi Yawason has revealed that persistent pressure from the Ghanaian media inspired them to the Ghana Premier League trophy.

Yawson says coach Bashiru Hayford and his playing body are grateful to the Ghanaian media for keeping the team on toes all season.

Several football pundits were skeptical about the Len Clay side’s march to the Premier League title, substantially basing their arguments on Bashiru Hayford’s traditional second half poor performance.

But Kofi Yawson in an extensive interview with sports crusader said, “The media threw a challenge to us during the course of the campaign. The Media guys told us Bashiru’s second performances has always been poor and that we cannot win the league, we tried to prove them wrong and it helped us win the league. Their support was enormous. The positive criticism helped us a lot. We thank all our supporters and especially the media. It has not been easy staying at the top of the league from week 2 till the end of the season but our players withstood the pressure and maintained their lead. We appreciate what they have done all season.”

Ashgold led the 2015 FCPPL from the second week all through and crowned a season of sharp shooting with title winning game at home to WAFA in Obuasi.

The Miners missed the chance of winning the double after crushing 2-0 in the MTN FA cup semi finals at the hands of Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
