Rare skills required to reconcile NPP - Arthur K

Former flagbearer aspirant of the main opposition New Patriotic Party Dr Arthur Kennedy has said the party requires “rare” reconciliation skills and leadership to resolve the crisis that has engulfed it.

The NPP is in a state of confusion as seven regional branches have called for the resignation of their national chairman Paul Afoko and general secretary Kwabena Agyepong following the killing of its Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama.

Adams Mahama died after he was acid attacked by some unknown assailants. The two national executives have also been accused of masterminding crime.

Although the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo has called for a truce, Dr Kennedy says a lot more is needed for peace to be restored in the party.

“Reconciliation is difficult and requires rare skills and spirit. Perhaps, three instances that were exemplary are the US after the civil war, the Egyptians and Israelis leading to the Camp David accords and South Africa's soft landing to end apartheid.

“They all required unusual leadership--- Lincoln for the Americans, Sadat and Begin for the Middle East and Mandela for apartheid in South Africa. The NPP is in need of such a spirit and leadership,” he wrote on his Facebook wall.
