Apam chooses Tuesday as communal Labour Day

The chiefs and people of Apam in the Central Region, have set aside every Tuesday, a non-fishing day, as communal labour day, to tidy up the town.

This is because the Saturday chosen by the government does not suit them as the day is a fishing day.

Nana Edu Effrim the tenth, chief of the town, and Nana Kwame Ntoah the fifth, Tufuhene, said these at a meeting they jointly chaired at Apam.

It was attended by clan heads and their linguists, queen-mothers, leaders of the Dentsefo and Tuafo Asafo Companies.

The meeting agreed that work would start between 0600 and 1000 hours, during which the movement of commercial vehicles would not be permitted.

It agreed that a penalty of 1,000 Ghana Cedis would be imposed on defaulters.

The meeting also decided that children under 18 years should not be allowed to push trucks, sell iced water, bread, food items, and ride bicycles during school hours.

Children who flout these directives together with their parents, risk a penalty of 500 Ghana Cedis, the meeting cautioned.

A 13-member task force had been set up to ensure that the streets were rid of school children by 2000 hours.

The meeting noted that indecent dressing was going on in the society, and banned the wearing of skimpy and “see through” dresses by girls and boys.

The participants urged parents to ensure that their wards were decently dressed before going appearing in public.
