Hearts of Oak pay tribute to Jones Attuquayefio

Hearts of Oak ahead of their crucial Confederation cup game against Esperance has been hit with a day of mourning as arguably the best coach to have handled the Accra based side, Jones Attuquayefio was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday morning after battling throat cancer for the past 8 years.

The Managing Director of the club, Gerald Ankrah on said, the demise of the 70-year-old ex-national trainer is a big blow to Hearts of Oak fraternity.

“It is very sad and a big blow to Hearts of Oak fraternity, he was a hero during his coaching days with Hearts and we will never forget the good job he did for the oak tree, we will give him a befitting burial,” Gerald Ankrah told Asempa fm.

During Jones Attuquayefio’s stint with the Phobians, he won 5 league trophies, 1 FA cup, 1 CAF Champions league, 1 Confederation cup, 1 CAF Super cup and in the year 2000 he was adjudged the best Africa coach of the year.
