Zoomlion workers angry

Workers of Zoomlion Company Ghana Limited (ZGL), a subsidiary of Jospong Group of Companies, in the various communities of the Volta region have threatened to lay down their tools if management of the company does not do anything about their eight months accumulated salaries.

According to the angry workers, since September 2014 till date their salaries have not been paid.

The affected workers from communities including Abor, Akatsi, Keta, Afiadenyigba, Anyako, Denu, and Afloa in the Volta region, who spoke to Today on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 on condition of anonymity, said although their monthly salary was very meager, they had not been paid for the past eight to nine months.

“The managers of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and government do not respect us; they talk to us as if we are not human beings. We do not know if it is because we are cleaners, and they think we are unimportant people,” one of the distressed workers lamented.

The non-payment of the monthly salaries of the workers, they disclosed to Today, was greatly affecting their economic and social survival.

Zoomlion workers at the Akatsi South District in the region also told Today that: “We always fall sick and our families are crying for money... because we have not been paid for eight to nine months although we have been working every morning from 5:00 A.M., to 10:00 P.M., every day.”

The angry workers added that “food to eat is also a problem...our children’s school fees have also not been paid.”
