‘Prioritise technical education to promote entrepreneurship’

A renowned international entrepreneurship trainer, Dr. Larry Farrel, has said serious efforts should be made at promoting technical education and building the capacity of young people to create and grow their businesses.

He said empowering the youth in this manner was the way forward to speed up the socio-economic progress of developing nations, such as Ghana.

Dr. Farrel, Founder of Farrel Company, a United States (US)-based entrepreneurship research and training organization, said it was important to aid the youth with ideas and skills that would enable them to take their destinies into their own hands.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi that for any country to survive the intense global competition it was imperative that it created conducive avenues for the people to use their skills and talents to create jobs.

“Again, governments should make start-up capital easily available to would-be young entrepreneurs and to also recognize successful businesses,” he stated.

Dr Farrel said more should be done not only to encourage and inspire potential entrepreneurs but to protect their investments.

He noted that the building of a vibrant private sector was the effective tool to fight poverty, bridging the widening rich-poor gap, tackling growing unemployment and creating wealth for the people.

Dr Farrel said what was needed was a friendly investment and entrepreneurial culture, technical knowledge, and a bit of capital to support prospective entrepreneurs.

He praised Ghana for taking the initiative to equip its young people with creative ideas and skills to develop their own businesses.
