Chief warns teachers to perform or leave

Nana Opoku Ababio I, Chief of Fiapre, near Sunyani has warned teachers of the local Methodist Basic School to perform better or leave the community.

He observed that the school has been performing abysmally in recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), saying, they must work harder for improved results in subsequent years or “they transfer themselves individually.”

Nana Ababio gave the warning on Monday during an inaugural ceremony of a four separate four- seater toilet facilities for the Fiapre Methodist Basic School, constructed by the Sunyani West District Assembly at the cost of GH¢71,000.00.

He explained that the School’s abysmal performance in the BECE for three consecutive years in the District was very disheartening, noting that, the school had always been last in the District.

The Fiapre Chief urged the teachers to show commitment to their work through effective teaching to avert the situation, urging that, the teachers could consult them for assistance whenever necessary.

Nana Ababio announced the Traditional Authority’s readiness to assist the teachers to perform to expectation to improve teaching and learning in the school.

He however entreated students to take their studies seriously to secure admission to their preferred Senior High Schools (SHS) through the Computerized Placement Selection System, cautioning that no one should come to him for assistance if they failed.

Madam Agnes Kusi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) said government was committed to ensuring quality tuition for pupils and students through the provision of educational materials and infrastructure in the country.

She advised parents and guardians to take interest in the education of their children by monitoring regularly, their performances in consultation with their teachers to secure a better future for them.

Madam Kusi appealed to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to assist the School in infrastructure development and other social amenities to create conducive teaching and learning environment.

She entreated the School Authorities, as well as pupils and students, to maintain the facility well and advised them to practice good hygiene to avoid contracting infectious diseases.

Madam Esther Afriyie, Headmistress of the School said the school lacked portable water, and that, the encroachment of the school land was a major challenge and appealed to the District Assembly to provide the School with a solar energy to aid teaching and learning.
