Africa Call Institute Calls for PPP to Avert Poverty in Ghana

Fighting poverty, creation of jobs, provision of shelter as roof over peoples head through joint forces with Government and private entities towards nation building are keywords that could best describe the core mandate of Africa Call Institute (ACI).

ACI is a non-Governmental Organization poised to restore life and hope back to Ghanaians through active collaboration with the private partners and the public sector with the aim of driving away poverty through initiation and implementation of projects that goes a long way to enhance the development of nation.

An institution of experts made up of think tank nationalities drawn from Africa, having at their disposal a tremendous literary, scientific and technological tools fashioned to bring a life changing opportunities intended to give hope and life to humanity through the provision of affordable housing, Youth in Agriculture and above all offer solutions to tackle Ghana’s energy crisis.

In Ghana issues of accommodation, unemployment, and energy crisis among others are rising challenges that bedeviled the economy begging for solution. Government has over the years been having challenges with the provision and maintenance and infrastructure for accelerated development of the country due to budgetary constraints.

Addressing the country’s infrastructure deficit currently will require sustained spending of at least US$1.5 billion per annum over the next decade which is a major challenge and a threat to development.

In order to make amends, government has therefore adopted a policy to encourage the use of Public Private Partnership (PPP) as a means of leveraging public and private sector resources and expertise to close infrastructure gap and deliver efficient public infrastructure and services. Government recognizes the use of PPPs as a strategic mechanism for procuring financing and delivering public infrastructure and related public services

Pundits however believe the implementation of the PPP policy adopted by the government will lessen the woes of the citizenry if proper execution of the policy by the private and the public sector in Ghana becomes viable. It is in this light, the Africa Call Institute has come into the picture with hope to partner with the private entities as well as the government to tackle the challenges of Ghanaians.

To show commitment, love and care in response to the plight of ordinary Ghanaians on the street who lacks proper place of sleeping, ACI has commenced a project to provide minimum standard but cheaper accommodation which comes with flexible payment terms bringing on board every Ghanaian with difficulty getting accommodation the privilege to enjoy just a minimum standard of living under their proposed affordable housing project.

As a result, the first partnership with a landlord in La Paz, a suburb of Accra, has yielded an erection of a single room apartment fully furnished for a beneficiary (tenant) and her two children under a flexible payment term agreement with just a contribution of three cedis on daily basis for five years guarantying her stay in the building as tenant for five years.

Fidelia Adogo, 31, a mother of two who is a hairdresser by profession who once used to sleep in a container by the roadside with her two kids said, it took her the intervention of God to bring ACI team her way as a saviour.

"I can now boast of a decent place for living for the next five years, even be an owner for lifetime if God permit" she said.

The total cost of the building was said to been an amount of 5000 Ghana cedis after completion which was single-handedly built by members of the group.

At a press briefing held in Accra last Monday to create awareness on ACI, and to bring to light its developmental projects aimed at giving relief to the plight of Ghanaians and to equally call for a total private partnership in order to bring a drastic change to Ghana , Nana Bafour Nsnekyire Akosa II, disclosed Ghana’s development in terms of infrastructure and growth does not lie in the hands of government alone therefore the private sector must rise up to the challenge and support the effort of government.

He said the time has come for Ghanaians to change their mindsets and assume responsibility for what they can do help each and every one themselves , for government and not what the government can do for them “ that time is now” he stressed.

He therefore appealed to the media to take up the responsibility of mobilizing support of the citizenry to come together and form companies that will partner with ACI in providing local community goods and services for the purpose of setting up an agenda geared towards enhancement of rapid socio-economic development.

The president of African Call Institute (ACI), Nana Bafour Nsenkyire Akosa II, has maintained that ACI was borne out of the challenges people went through in life worth-living in Ghana therefore, the focus was to solve the African problem by taking people out of poverty.

According to him, ACI came up with the affordable housing and regeneration program to use lands that are misapplied for a recreational of buildings that will suit the desires of people.

“We are very much concerned about the plight of the middle-income earner who cannot afford a decent home that comes with its basic requirements because of poverty” he hinted.

He announced the program seeks to renew hope by demonstrating new possibilities and opportunities, working to change formally installed ideas, culture and the institutional framework on the environment that has changed becoming a hindrance to progressive development

According to him the proposed Regeneration and Affordable Housing Program will be driven from a variety of areas which include spatial planning options, education, construction, commerce, business development.

“We represent the use of ideology to build and transform rather than focusing attention on government to do everything when it is not possible to achieve” Sidney Tarrant, International strategic planning Director of ACI, has said.

First Pan African Volta City Project Nana Bafour Nsenkyire Akosa II added that ACI in collaboration with Sokpoe limited (Traditional Council and People in Sokpoe), Taquan Ghana Limited and local and diaspora Pan Africanist Organizations are in the process of laying the foundation of the first ever Pan African City, which is to be named Volta City.

Energy Development Program ACI has been contracted by a client to develop an electrical system that will take the client partially off the national grid.

ACI envisages that about 20% of consumers of electricity in Ghana are those that can afford to be removed of the national grid. In the short term, this will be able to reduce the pressure on the national grid and make this income group self-sufficient in the production of a substantial part of their electricity consumption.

ACI has also sourced the development of small Hydro-electricity generators for community electricity generation. The future of ACI’s interventions into the energy sector will be sustainable

The other seven development strategies proposed by ACI comprises of mining and economic development strategy, incorporation of Ghana (urban, sub-urban areas/ communities and villages), A Land Management Program and Youth in Agriculture- under the ACI Seed Program.
