?1.2 billion Found In Dead MP's Car?

It was all sadness when the late MP for Navrongo Central, John Achuliwor met his untimely death in a fatal accident at Ejisu barely two weeks ago. A group of young men, call them ''Good Samaritans'' who were first to arrive on the scene of the accident and helped in the rescue effort were agog with excitement when they chanced upon an incredible amount of cash in new crisp ?10,000 and ?20,000 notes in the smashed boot of the MP’s car.

According to the ''Ghana Palaver'', the amount was in excess of ?1 billion. The young men made sure that the cash had ''vanished'' before they embarked on the rescue mission and the subsequent arrival of the Ejisu Police.

The cash was apparently meant for the Wulensi by-election and also to kick start President Kufuor’s campaign for the 2004 elections. Alongside the missing cash were hundreds of thousands of the ''Kufuor for President 2004'' campaign posters which were left untouched at the scene of the accident.

According to Palaver intelligence sources, as at the weekend, about 15 Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) operatives had descended on the Ejisu township and its environs in a desperate bid to locate the ''Good Samaritans'' who caused the money to vanish and to recover the loot, put conservatively at about ?1.2 billion.

The unfortunate victim, the paper says is the Ejisu District Police Commander who has been put on notice to be transferred out of the district if the money s not found.
