Alhaji Jawula backs decision to bid for AFCON 2017

Ex-Ghana FA chairman Alhaji MND Jawula has thrown his weight behind government’s decision to slap in a bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana last hosted the tournament in 2008 and ready to step in for another bite of the cherry after Libya pulled out of hosting the continents biggest sporting festival due to continual civil unrest.

Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga has expressed optimism towards Ghana’s chances of winning the rights due to the availability of stadia and other required infrastructure which were constructed to host the competition six years ago.

Alhaji Jawula has lauded the decision of government.

“I feel it’s a good decision and another opportunity to exhibit our cultural and our passion to the entire continent,” Jawula told GHANASoccernet.com.

“We hosted it in 2008 and it would be in our advantage when it comes to infrastructure and other requirement.

“It’s a very good decision.”

The next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Morocco from the 17 January to the 8 February 2015.
