MOYS blew Gh¢211,522 on website, Presidential ball - Ankrah

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has revealed that it spent a whopping Gh¢22,857.00 on the design and creation of a website and a mobile app for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

This was made known by the former minister of the sector, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah when he took his turn at the Presidential Commission probing Ghana's bizarre performance and off-field activities at the global football tournament.

A farewell ball hosted by the State for the Black Stars before their departure for Brazil also cost Gh¢ 188,665, according to Afriyie-Ankrah.

The event organised in May by the ministry was attended by President John Dramani Mahama and used to raise funds for the country's preparation for the global showpiece.

According to Mr. Ankrah, the money spent was taken out of a total amount of Gh¢4,509,635 raised by the ministry for its World Cup operations.

He added that GHc 1,953,096 was spent on accommodation and feeding in Brazil, GHc 16,700 on media relations and GHc 519,035 on match tickets covering 612 fans.

He noted that the amount was raised from a total of 41 companies, four of whom preferred to remain anonymous.

Afriyie Ankrah also revealed that there was no formal contract between the ministry and the caterers it used for the tournament in Brazil including Kenkey Boutique, Amber and Muni's Waakye but were rather given letters to formalise the arrangement between the two parties.
