Some Ghana pastors too 'partisan' - Rev. Frimpong

The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has said the “partisan” nature of some Ghanaian pastors makes it difficult for the public to appreciate their stance on national issues.

The General-Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, Pastor Mensa Otabil, has come under fire recently by some government functionaries over his demand for “a new leadership response” to the challenges confronting Ghana.

Commenting on the attacks, the Christian Council chief scribe said the reactions are shameful and must not be repeated.

He, however, cautioned religious leaders in the West African nation to be neutral and circumspect in their commentary on national affairs.

“Some pastors are too political and materially-minded. All they think about is money. How can you help the flock when all you care about is money,” Rev. Opuni-Frimpong stated.

“If you make a politician see you as an opponent because of your actions and comments, then you can’t blame them if they react and see you as their political opponent.

“This attitude of some pastors has weakened our resolve to confront national issues with the morale right required. We must learn to commend them if they do something right,” he told Accra-based Adom FM.
