Chinese Ambassador meets Minister for Youth and Sports

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Sun Baohong paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga at his office on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 to discuss how the two countries can collaborate in the areas of Youth and Sports development.
H.E. Baohong reiterated Ghana’s long standing relationship with her country and said her government was ready to deepen that relationship, especially in the field of Sports and Youth development.
The Ambassador requested the Hon. Minister to furnish her with a report on specific needs of the youth in Ghana that would need the assistance from her government. H.E Baohong disclosed that the Cape Coast sports stadium was very important to the Chinese government and was happy with the progress of work at the site.
As a way of showing their commitment to the development of sports in Ghana, the Ambassador said her embassy seeks to donate footballs to deprived communities in the country and therefore requested for details of such communities from the ministry.
H.E Baohong assured the Hon. Minister of the Chinese government commitment to youth development in Ghana and mentioned that she would be organizing a reception for Ghanaian Students going to study in China on scholarship this year.
On his part, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mahama Ayariga commended the Ambassador and the Chinese government for their continuous support to the development of youth and sports in Ghana.
.He indicated the need for the two countries to build an effective relationship that will serve the interest of the youth in both countries.
The Hon. Minister assured the Ambassador that the Cape Coast Stadium will be completed in due time and noted that he would personally call the contractor of the stadium to know their challenges to help him act appropriately.
Hon. Mahama Ayariga used the opportunity to appeal to the Chinese government to consider constructing small capacity stadia in the Upper East, Upper West and the Eastern regions to help promote and develop sports in these regions.
