Lorry fares up in Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis

Transport fares within the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly have shot up by 20 to 30 pesewas.

A visit to the Sekondi/Takoradi taxi rank, Sekondi Trotro station, New site station and Anaji trotro station revealed that the 15 per cent increment in transport fares was being implemented.

Mr. Ekow Flynt, GPRTU secretary of the Sekondi /Takoradi taxi station said though the increment should have been pegged at 24pesewas, the station decided to increase the fares by only GH¢20p.

Mr. Richard Kwofie, a driver at the new site taxi rank said the continual increment in petroleum products was affecting the transport business. Mr. Francis Nti, Secretary to the GPRTU at that Station said 20 pesewas was added to most of the fares with the exception of Takoradi/ Essikado, which is now GH¢1.50p as against the previous price of GH¢1.20p.

Madam Ekua Atta, a pawpaw seller, said the increment would add to their burden and asked the authorities to find ways of lightening the economic burden on Ghanaians.
