AGA organizes Investment Fair for workers

An investment and Jobs fair has been organized for over 800 immediate and past workers of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi mine aimed at creating awareness in financial management and other Job opportunities for the workers.

The fair, which attracted over 20 financial and investment companies throughout the country, was organized by the Ghana Mineworkers Union (GMWU) and the professional and managerial staff Union, in collaboration with the management of AGA. Some of the Financial and Investment companies that participated in the fair included Golden Pride, EM Capital, Liberty Capital, Data Bank Group, NDK Financial, Gold Coast Securities, and IGS Investments.

Mr. Nicholas Yeboah, the Secretary of GMWU, Obuasi Branch, commended all the stakeholders for participating in the fair as well as their support towards making the retrenched workers viable while out of the mine.

‘’The campaign to create investment awareness is very necessary so that our already retrenched members will not become destitute after life at AngloGold Ashanti’’, he said. The secretary added ‘’ we want them to live happy with guaranteed job security as we always say in the mining industry ‘’the old miner never dies”.

Mr. Yeboah hoped that the jobs and investment fair would generate the needed fruit for both the Union and the workers, adding ‘’ we have to continue to work hand in hand so that together we grow in the interest of mutual development.

There were presentations on the general investment and financial climate in Ghana, Overview of the new pension scheme and small and medium scale business opportunities in Obuasi and Ghana.
