Second Ghana garden and flower show launched

The Stratcomm Africa Ghana Garden & Flower Show 2014 with the theme, Gardening for Value: Health, Beauty, Jobs and Income was launched Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Department of Parks & Gardens at Cantonments in Accra.

The media launch was attended by several media personnel, exhibitors from last year’s show as well as garden enthusiasts.

Launching the event, Madam Florence Benson, Managing Director of Floben’s Creation commended Stratcomm Africa and partners for nurturing the vision that culminated in the show. She said the theme for the event was apt as it addresses the often overlooked function of gardening as an income generating venture.

She said, “Ghana has the right conditions to help it become a major exporter but sadly, we seem to import many of the flowers we use in Ghana. She added, ‘my hope is that soon, we can develop our abundant fertile lands to plant flowers for export’’’

Mr. Steven Abban, a representative of Access Bank, Lead Sponsor for Garden & Flower 2013 and 2014 said, ‘The decision of the bank to sponsor the show stems from its commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment. He added, ‘this year’s theme aligns well with our sustainable banking philosophy and desire to contribute to solving growing global concerns about the environment’.

Other sponsors include Cocoa Processing Company, GAME, Dizengoff Ghana.

Ms. Esther A. N. Cobbah, CEO of Stratcomm Africa announced that the duration of the Garden & Flower show has been extended from 4 – 8 days based on requests from exhibitors and participants. She also informed participants that the show is coinciding with the celebration of Stratcomm Africa’s 20th year.

“As Stratcomm Africa celebrates 20 years this year we are particularly excited about the Garden and Flower Show 2014. The theme for this anniversary is ‘Our Story, Your Story…a Vision Pursued’. We are delighted that the Garden and Flower Show is part of our story. Through this show, Stratcomm Africa helps to generate awareness about Ghana’s abundant natural resources and promotes Ghana as a compelling investment destination”.

Ms. Cobbah further announced that a new Garden & Flower Magazine will be launched at the show.

The launch was chaired by Mrs. Karen Hendrickson, co-author of Ghana’s beautiful gardens.
