Second People's Assembly To Be Held Today

President Kufuor and his ministers will later this morning submit themselves to scrutiny at a People?s Assembly to mark the NPP?s second year in office. The People?s Assembly, an innovation of the Kufuor administration is in its second year.

While some have described the concept as a propaganda tool, many including opposition parties have hailed it as an important step towards bringing the government closer to the people.

The President and his Ministers will be answering questions from the public but time constraints and space limits will restrain the number of issues to be discussed as happened last year.

The People?s Assembly is one of many activities lined up to commemorate President Kufuor?s second year in office.

But more importantly today is the tenth anniversary of Ghana?s return to constitutional democracy, following the general elections of 1992. The inauguration of the first government and Parliament of the Fourth Republic ten years ago begun with a smooth but cautious build up of democratic tenets after 11 years of military rule.
