ASSEMBLY MEMBER CRIES FOR FOOD, WATER

Agbekotsekpo (Greater Accra) 16 Nov. The assembly member for Agbekotsekpo electoral area in the Dangme West District, Mr.. E.K. Agbeko today sent an SOS to the Government and non-Governmental Organisations (NGOS) to support them with food and provision of water. Mr..Agbeko said even though the people are traditional farmers, the rain fall parten in the area has changed thus making living very difficult. The assembly member made the call during an inspection of some development projects in the area by the greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr.. Joshua Alabi at Agbekotsekpo. According to Mr.. Agbeko, non-availability of drinking water is having a toll on their domestic animals and cattle. He, therefore, appealed to the Minister to help them find an immediate solution to the water and food problems. Mr.. Alabi pointed out that, the meet the people policy of the regional coordinating council (RCC) is to afford them, the opportunity to know their problems. Mr.. Mike Gizo member of parliament for the area, who is also the Minister of tourism advised the people not to consider their problems as a crime but rather come together and assist the government in finding lasting solution to them. He noted that problems would always occur in the lives of people especially in the rural communities. It is the same people who will have to face the challenges and find solutions to them. Mr.. Gizo said the area abounds in tourist potentials and that everything will be made possible to attract tourists there. The district chief executive, Mr.. Seth Kpabitey stated that, Agbekotsekpo is among the priority communities to benefit from the Danish international development agency (DANIDA) funded water and sanitation programme. Mrs.. Mary Quaye, District Director Of Education commended Mr.. Teye Nokpo Agbeko and the school management committee chairman, Mr.. J.Y.T. Agbeko for providing free accommodation for teachers posted to the area. The construction of houses by the people for teachers, she said underscores the understanding of the government's free compulsory and universal basic education (FCUBE) and assured them of additional teachers when the 51 million cedis primary and Junior Secondary schools are completed by December this year.
