Newmont workers threaten demonstration

The Professional and Managerial Staff Union of Ghana Mine Workers Union of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) at Kenyasi in the Brong Ahafo Region have threatened to demonstrate if the injustices being meted out to them are not halted.

Addressing the media at Kenyasi, the spokesperson for the group, Victor Asare Gyapong, said the injustices and deceitful treatment from the management of Newmont are uncalled for and must stop.

Mr. Gyapong said Newmont employees have endured so much disrespect and intimidation from management for a long time, and that must come to an end.

“In due course we shall share details with you the press and hope that you will support our intention to fight for fair treatment for the noble Ghanaian worker,” he noted.

He also revealed that a red flag has been hoisted at the premises of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) Ahafo to serve notice of their intended action and to officially start the countdown for the day when the workers at Ahafo, Accra and Akyem would demand for their fair share of what they have toiled for over the years.

According to Mr. Gyapong, they were keeping the details of the injustices and deceit to their chest for the time being to give management the chance to act.

He said if management takes no action, then the details would be made public to the whole world.
