Sack inefficient AMA Boss – Minority MPs agitate

Minority Members of Parliament are calling for the immediate dismissal of the Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuije.

The call for the dismissal of the AMA Boss comes after an uncompleted 6-storey building at Nii Boi town in Accra collapsed on Thursday March 13.

One person was killed while others were successfully rescued.

The hotel collapse follows the Melcom building disaster in 2012 which claimed nine lives with several others injured.

The AMA Boss Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has rejected calls to resign insisting that he cannot be blamed for collapse of the two buildings.

But speaking on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Patrick Boamah, MP for Okaikoi Central who led calls for the dismissal of the AMA Boss said more municipalities must be created if Accra is too large for Mr. Vanderpuije to handle.

“We are asking the government to go deeper and create more municipalities so that we would have serious people with the requisite qualification to manage such assemblies that would be created.

“This is the second time this incident is happening and the AMA Boss is still sitting in his office very comfortably…so let’s create more municipalities if the AMA Boss cannot manage the whole of Accra” Hon. Boamah said.

His call was backed by several other minority MPs who asserted that the AMA Boss has failed to manage Accra properly calling on President Mahama to replace him.
