Akpafu Citizens Undertake 280 Million Cedis Projects

Accra, (Greater Accra) 10 Nov. Citizens of Akpafu Mempeasem in the Hohoe district have executed a number of self-help projects under a two-year crash development programme estimated at 280 million cedis. Projects completed under the programme include a health centre with a bungalow, built with financial assistance from the Hohoe district assembly and a water project with material assistance from the assembly and the Danish International Developement Agency (DANIDA), and three KVIP's. Addressing the Accra/Tema branch of the association in Accra yesterday, Mr. Emmanuel Demenyo, the General secretary, commended the members who contributed 5,000 cedis each towards the projects while citizens at home provided communal labour. Mr. Demenyo also commended a seven-member project committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Francis R.K. Otipong, who is also president of the association, for ensuring that the projects were completed on schedule. He thanked the Hohoe assembly and Akpafu Mempeasem citizens abroad for their contributions and appealed to the Akpafu special rate defaulters and those who made pledges to redeem them to enable other projects to be tackled. Mr. Demanyo announced that the completed projects would be commissioned on November 29 at a harvest to raise funds for the other projects.
