Our judges have conscience - Victor Smith

The immediate Former Eastern Regional Minister, Ambassador Victor Smith, says the judges of the Supreme Court sitting on the 2012 election petition case have a conscience and will not be hoodwinked by any amount of public relations or propaganda by any of the factions in the case to give a warped decision.

According to him, the judges will give their verdict based on the evidence before them and the strength of the address of the parties involved and not on one faction’s biased perception about the other’s ability to rule.

Ambassador Victor Smith made this observation after the Daily Post showed him a copy of a 14-page leaked NPP document that is aimed at equipping members of the NPP’s Communication team with enough propaganda to sway the Supreme Court judges to give a ruling in favour of their party.

The document, titled SPEAKING POINTS FOR NEXT FEW WEEKS BEFORE VERDICT takes the communication team members through the following issues from the party’s perspective;

(i) THE ISSUE THE COURT IS DETERMINING (ii) WE HAVE MADE A CASE

(iii) PETITIONERS CASE ON IRREGULARITIES (iv) RESPONDENTS STRATEGY & BEHAVIOUR IN THE COURSE OF THE TRIAL (v)RESPONDENTS ARGUMENT ON IRREGULARITIES (vi)THE EC’s BEHAVIOUR DURING TRIAL (vii)THE NUMBERS & SCENARIOS (viii)THE COURT APPROACH (ix) WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ARE DECLARED (x)THE NDC’S MACHINATIONS TO TWIST & BUY MANDATE OF PEOPLE

The document, a devious propaganda piece while seeking to guide members of the NPP communication team on how to present the petitioner's case and that of the respondents to the public, is to end with a litany of lies about the NDC. The ruling party will be painted in very bad light, especially as a party that bought votes from the populace, a party that beat up NPP supporters and a party that has so far ran the nation aground. A close look at the document will suggest that current issues like the GYEEDA saga, the market fires, the strikes and load shedding exercise have been clearly interwoven to create a picture of a helpless nation under the NDC government, ultimately to sway the judges to rule in favour of the NPP.

The communication team members while bad-mouthing the NDC government, will be explaining to the public on how the military and the police will fall in line once Akufo-Addo is declared president. They are also to paint a picture to suggest that an Akufo-Addo government will protect NDC supporters as well “and restore hope to the vital sectors of the economy” which they are to claim were all collapsing.

However, Ambassador Smith believes that this strategy is an exercise in futility because the judges of the Supreme Court have a conscience and will rule solely based on evidence before the court.

“That we have done well the past four years as a government, cleaning the mess of the NPP will not even count. What will count is the evidence placed before the court,” he asserted.
