Foreign & Defence Minister Off To Cote D’Ivoire

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hackman Owusu Agyemang and the Minister of Defence, Dr Kwame Addo-Kufour are due in Cote d’Ivoire on Monday to begin talks on bringing an end to the mutiny in that country.

The talks are also aimed at bringing a possible ceasefire between the mutineers and government fighters involved in the 11 days of fighting in La Cote D’Ivoire. The two ministers from Ghana will be joined by their colleagues from Nigeria and Togo, which are among the five countries selected as monitoring zones between the warring factions.

Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang said the ECOWAS force will be dispatched into Cote d’Ivoire, if the ceasefire talks fail to achieve results. He noted that, the conflict between Liberia and Sierra Leone around the Manu River, has contributed a lot, to the possessing of firearms by the mutineers.
