BNI arrests Omari Wadie over fake Mahama sex photo

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has arrested a staunch member of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, NPP, Michael Omari Wadie, Radio XYZ reports.

The arrest, according to the station, was in connection with a doctored sex photo which Mr. Omari Wadie allegedly posted on his Facebook wall to portray President John Mahama as having sex with a woman in an office.

Mr. Wadie who has been in the UK for the past few days was arrested at the dawn of Monday May 27 at the Kotoka International Airport when he touched town.

The main opposition New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyepong confirmed Omari Wadie’s arrest on his personal facebook wall.

Mr. Agyapong wrote that: “MICHAEL OMARI WADIE OF NPP HAS BEEN ARRESTED BY THE BNI. JOIN THE TEAM TO FREE HIM NOW”.

The picture in question was allegedly first posted on Facebook by Mr. Michael Omari Wadie and went viral.

Mr. Omari Wadie reportedly spoke to Radio Gold on Wednesday May 22, 2013 and admitted posting the picture on his Facebook wall.

It is, however, not clear if he personally doctored the picture.

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr. Recently described as “dirty” and “crude”, attempts to denigrate the person of President with the doctored picture.

Mr. Mahama’s face has been transposed on the original image of the man in the photo.

Kweku Baako told Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana current Affairs programme on Thursday May 23, 2013 that: “It’s dirty, crude; crudity of the highest order; I think we ought to stop those things…We’ve done those things to all our past leaders and we continue to present day leaders”.

Mr. Baako Jnr who said he cringed and felt nauseous at the sight of the picture which he described as “so fake” said: “It ought to be investigated”.

“…I can’t stand it…you can’t do that; you can have disagreements - Political disagreements, Ideological disagreements - What we shouldn’t do is this level of character assassination”.

Kweku Baako Jnr. said whoever is responsible for the picture “must be ashamed of himself”.

He also condemned similar pictures circulating on social media websites and in news papers about the 2012 Presidential candidate of the main opposition NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Ablekuma West Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu.

Also on the same TV programme was the Executive Secretary of the Free Zones Board, Mr. Kojo Twum Boafo who described the picture as “disgusting”.
