Japan Gives ?3.2 Billion for District Level Elections

The Japanese government has given 3.2 billion cedis to the Electoral Commission (EC) for the District Level Elections.

A release from the Japanese Embassy to the Ghana News Agency on Monday said: "The amount can now be duly transferred to the bank account of Electoral Commission from the accounts of Counter-value fund of Food Aid in 1998".

"The counter-value Fund of Food Aid has been accumulated through the Food Aid at the Bank of Ghana in local currency. It is to be utilised effectively for social development purposes.

"In this regard, the Fund will contribute to the smooth implementation of the forthcoming local elections."

It said the grant is "in accordance with the Exchange of Notes (Food Aid) signed by the governments of Japan and Ghana.
