Fresh shooting in Bawku raises fear

Mamprusis in Bawku have decried the renewed sporadic gunshots in the outskirts of the Bawku Township.

They are afraid the situation could resurrect the relaxed tension in Bawku and its environs.

The Mamprusis have therefore called on the security agencies to be proactive in dealing with miscreants whose activities are likely to cause disorder in Bawku. A young man believed to be a Mamprusi was shot Sunday evening in the outskirts of the Bawku Township.

Spokesperson for the Mamprusi community in Bawku, Mohammed Tahidu Nambe in an interview with Citi News called for government’s immediate concentration.

According to him, the victim (name withheld) is responding to treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

He said the elders of the Mamprusi community have cautioned the youth against revenge with the expectation that the situation will be brought under control.

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, ACP Boadu Peprah confirmed the incident to Citi News and assured residents of maximum protection.

He attributed the situation to what he described as the illegal possession of weapons by people with evil intensions in the Bawku municipality.
