Akufo-Addo is an obstacle to NPP- Sekou Nkrumah

Last son of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has labeled Nana Akufo-Addo, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general election as an “obstacle” to the fortunes of the party.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah said “the NPP is not about Akufo-Addo, he is the leader of the party, he represented the party in 2012 election but it doesn’t mean he will forever be the leader of the NPP. The party is bigger than Akufo-Addo so he can’t be an obstacle to the progress of the party”.

Speaking on Accra based Asempa FM’s political programme, ‘Ekosii-sen’, Dr. Sekuo Nkrumah stated that Akufo- Addo should have conceded defeat to President Mahama after the results had been declared.

He explained: “why I said he should have conceded is because the Electoral Commission conducted the election and declared the results in favuor of the NDC.

“When NPP was in power you remember even when people were allegedly massaging figures in 2008 they still couldn’t get fifty plus one, this time NDC had it so something went wrong with the NPP campaign [this time around], so the NPP need to go back and do their home work well and focus on 2016”.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah stressed that although he does not have any intention of going back to the NDC, the NPP is making itself unattractive to many Ghanaians in 2016.

The outspoken politician quit the NDC— a party he campaigned for during the 2008 elections and later declared support for the NPP prior to the 2012 general election.
