Sellers in Cape Coast complain of low sales

With just a day to Christmas, thousands of people have thronged the Cape Coast Municipality probably to do last minute shopping yet traders are complaining of low sales.

A visit to Kotokuraba Market, the main shopping centre in Cape Coast, revealed a motley crowd but most of them were “window shopping”.

Some people the Ghana News Agency spoke with attributed the situation to the aftermath of the elections saying it had always been so every election year because the political activities affected the celebration of the Yuletide.

Auntie Ama, a trader, complained of low sales saying; “things are not good at all and market is slow as compared to last year.”

According to a fowl seller, the fowls were sold depending on their weight and the prices ranged from GH?20 to GH?180 but as at 0900 hours that she came to the market, she had sold only three fowls.

Madam Eva Arthur, who sells cloths and jewellery, complained that the elections had overshadowed the Christmas and traders were not making sales as they expected.

Mr Ato Brown, a lecture at the University of Cape Coast, said there was not enough money in the system and this had affected the Christmas festivities.

At the lorry stations the usual hustle and bustle for transport normally around this time was absent as there was enough vehicles to convey passengers to their destination.
