Police stop NPP protestors from storming EC office in K'si

The Police have prevented hundreds of supporters of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) from entering the regional office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Kumasi where the party is on a demonstration over the election results.

On reaching Adom, a suburb of Kumasi the protestors had wanted to march to the regional EC office nearby but the police in a swift fashion prevented them from doing so fearing they might attack officials there.

The NPP leadership led by National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, are in the Ashanti regional capital in a march against the results of the recent presidential elections which saw President Mahama emerging as the president-elect with a 50.07 per cent of valid votes cast.

The NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo who is aggrieved by the declaration of the results told his teeming supporters a week ago at the Obra Spot at the Nkrumah Circle in Accra that he had won the elections.

The party is currently working with a team of lawyers to proceed to the Supreme Court with evidence to prove its claims.

The party is hopeful that the results will be overturned by the Supreme Court with the stack of evidence available to them.

XYZ News’ Isaac Bediako Justice who is with the protestors says the NPP flagbearer who is supposed to address the supporters at the end of the march is not yet in the region.

He said the supporters have converged at the Abbeys Park in the capital.
