Alan 2016 posters out in Kumasi

Even before the dust settles on the defeat of the 2012 flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo, the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi and its environs are awash with the posters of his archrival,

Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng, projecting him as their choice for 2016. The posters started popping up in the NPP stronghold few days to last Friday’s election which was won by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, by 50.7% to 47.74.

The posters were seen around Bomso area near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

It had the inscription “I Am Still For Ghana John Alan Kyeremateng”, with the NPP logo”.

It is unclear whether they had anything to do with the drop in votes for Nana Addo and the swell in votes to President Mahama, compared to the late President John Mills.

While the late President Mills got a little over 400, 000 votes in 2008, President Mahama got over 600,000 votes in 2012, cutting down the NPP’s votes in the Ashanti Region.

The Herald is informed that the posters emerged to suppressed rumours making the rounds that Mr Kyeremateng, who in recent times look a little emaciated, had been indisposed and bedridden with diabetes.

Meanwhile, last Saturday, Mr Kyeremateng was spotted at the Airport West residence of ex-President Kufuor in the company of colleague ex-ministers to celebrate the seventy-fourth birthday of the ex-president.

The body-language of many of the personalities who attended the lavish party, according to insiders, at a time when results of the presidential votes were trickling in suggested that they knew Nana Addo was going to lose the elections.
