Police Ask Passengers To Report Unruly Drivers

Accra,(Greater Accra) 21 Oct. Mr. Mustapha Garba, Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Force, today asked passengers to report to the police all commercial vehicles that charge above the prescribed fare during peek hours. He told the Ghana News Agency that due to the construction of some roads in the metropolis, traffic in some parts of the city has become unbearable. This has compelled drivers of some commercial vehicles to stop working during peak hours thus creating artificial shortage of vehicles. Commercial vehicle drivers who operate during these peak hours take advantage of the situation to charge more than the prescribed fares. Mr. Garba described such acts as " irresponsible" and warned drivers to desist from them in their own interest. He said as Christmas draws near, traffic is bound to increase in the city and if such acts are not controlled now, they will become worse during the festivities.
