NACOB boss dismisses £4.3m value of seized cannabis

The Narcotics Control Board, (NACOB) has dismissed reports that the street value of the cannabis uncovered on a plane from Ghana at the Heathrow Airport is worth 4.3 million pounds.

According to Executive Secretary of NACOB, Yaw Akwasi Sarpong the value of the cannabis is rather 500,000 pounds.

UK Border officials have described the seizure as the biggest in three years.

Following the seizure, a senior officer at the Narcotics Control Board has been sacked while five workers who were arrested by the police have all been granted bail.

Speaking to Radio XYZ News, Mr. Sarpong described the UK Standard Newspaper report on the street value as inaccurate.

“The Evening Standard newspaper is a very sensational paper so in terms of the street value, it is a complete exaggeration”.

Mr. Akrasi Sarpong however emphasized that the nation is committed to dealing with the drug trade canker.
