Asantehene advocates holistic development of children

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged parents, teachers and school authorities to complement the efforts of each other in the upbringing, career and educational development of children.

The Asantehene said teachers, parents, as well as the School Management Committee (SMC) each had responsible roles to play in ensuring the holistic development of the child.

The formative years of mankind, he said, was the most important aspect of his or her development, adding that it was the duty of all to work together to monitor and supervise the academic work and progress, moral training and skills development of the child.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu was addressing a ceremony to mark the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Hilltop School in Kumasi.

It was on the theme: “Challenges and Opportunities of International Education in Ghana – the Cambridge International Education Example.”

The Asantehene was worried that most parents left the upbringing of their children in the hands of only the teacher as they concentrated all their efforts in search of money and materialism.

He reminded those parents that the time lost in ensuring the proper upbringing of a child could not be regained and, therefore, they ought not to compromise on their parental responsibilities.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu also called on pupils and students to be focused on their studies as they developed their skills for meaningful lives in future.

Dr. Andrew Oteng-Amoako, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hilltop, recounted how the school had made substantive gains in its academic programmes since its establishment.

Through hard work, the school is now considered as one of the best in terms of the delivery of basic education.
