DCE worried about spate of armed robbery in Sissala West

Mr. Moses Dramani Luri, Sissala, West District Chief Executive (DCE), has expressed worry over the spate of armed robbery in the area, and called for effective measures to stop the criminals from harassing people.

He appealed for more resources and police personnel to be deployed to the area to help put an end to the criminal activities .

Mr. Luri in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Gwollu on Friday, said four serious robberies took place in the district since he become DCE in March this year.

He cited personnel of the China Water and Electricity Co-operation working on government rural electrification project in the district as the latest victims of armed robbers.

Mr Luri lamented that the armed robbers, who usually laid ambush during Gwollu and Tumu market days to terrorize traders, robbed the Chinese contractors of GH¢2,200.00, mobile phones and digital cameras.

He said the robberies usually occurred along the Gwollu-Fielmua road, especially at broken down culverts between Gbal and Fatchu, and sharp curves between Kwala and Gbal.

Mr Luri said the district covers very vast land but with a few police stations and personnel, and called for the establishment of two additional police stations at Zini and Jeffisi.

He also tasked police patrol teams to be vigilant during Fielmua, Gwollu and Tumu market days, to enable them to protect traders from the terror of these armed robbers.
