Speak out on Boateng Gyan's 'secret tape' - NPP urges Mahama

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on President Mahama to immediately institute an investigation into the leaked tape by the National Democratic Congress’ National Organizer Yaw Boateng Gyan.

The said tape had Mr Boateng Gyan addressing some unidentified persons on ways and means of ensuring that the NDC retains power in the December elections.

Speaking on Radio XYZ’s current affairs programme the “The Analysts”, a member of the NPP communications team, Ibrahim Mensah, said the issues that were exposed by the secret tape clearly reveal the hidden agenda of the NDC ahead of the 2012 polls.

“First and foremost, Yaw Boateng Gyan should in-fact be questioned right now by the security forces. That’s the first thing that needs to be done. President Mahama has not spoken about this issue. That is another thing that needs to be done because we are looking at Ghana’s democratic integrity here.”

He said the attempt to use the special forces to cause mayhem vindicates the NPP’s position on the all-die-be-die mantra.

But a member of the NDC communications team, George Spencer Aquaye, said though the party will take the necessary action on the tape, there is nothing criminal about the issues that were discussed on the tape.

He called on the NPP to be sincere with its stance on issues of national interest and address them dispassionately.

According to Mr. Acquaye, unlike the NPP who stood by the Kennedy Agyapong when the latter charged Akans to attack Ewes and Gas, many NDC members have called for an investigation into the matter to unearth the truth surrounding the tape.
