I’m Committed To Ensure Completion Of The Better Ghana Agenda - Mahama


His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, on Tuesday September 4th, 2012, unequivocally told the nation in an address to outline his policy direction for the rest of the year that, he was committed to ensuring the completion of the Better Ghana Agenda that his boss (the late president John Evans Atta Fiifi Mills) started.
He said to the audience at the filled International Conference Centre in Accra that, the only way to continue to keep the memory of the late President Mills in the hearts and minds, is for all to be recommitted to his Better Ghana Agenda.
“The surest way to immortalize him is to recommit ourselves to his agenda and to create a Better Ghana for all”, President Mahama stated.
According to him, the commitment to invest in people, to build a strong economy, to develop infrastructure, and to ensure transparency and accountability in governance, were the building blocks of the Better Ghana Agenda, and ‘I remain steadfast in pursuing that commitment’.
President Mahama also pointed out that, although his presentation might appear lengthy, the exercise is to outline a policy guide to the nation, so that collectively, the nation can fully maximize the resources of state, as well as, harnessing energies towards consolidating the gains that have been made over the last 4 years.
Notable among the president’s priorities for the final year of the first term of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as he outline his policy vision, were to consolidate government’s achievements in holding down inflation and maintaining macro-economic stability, maintaining discipline in government expenditure, so as to avoid unbudgeted expenditure that can distort the economy; effectively implementing the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for public services for productivity in performance to increase and accelerate infrastructure development, peace, security, discipline and election 2012, governance and anti-corruption.
The rest are, stimulating growth in agriculture and industry, with a view to generate jobs, particularly for the youth of this country, ensuring wise utilization, in a transparent manner, of oil revenues and revenues, social development, particularly in the health, education, sanitation and the social sectors and many relevant areas.
Touching on the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), President John Mahama, once again stated government’s commitment to improving the conditions of service for public servants in the country.
“Our government did not hesitate to implement the single spine salary structure that was passed on from the previous administration, despite the limitations in resources. With all the challenges, the implementation of the single spine salary structure is almost complete and most of our public servants are enjoying the benefits of improved remuneration”, president Mahama added.
Committed to the Better Ghana Agenda meant to improve living conditions of Ghanaian workers, as started by his boss. President Mahama pledged his commitment, ensuring that the remaining steps are taken towards the completion of the single spine salary structure, by the end of this year.
He however, directed that the Public Service Commission furnish him with a revised framework for performance in all public service institutions, which he said must be completed at least quarterly.
