Former President Kufuor has taken a swipe at the electoral commission for what he considers their 'unreasonable' decision and insistence on creating 45 new constituencies just three months before the December general elections. The former President was speaking at Mantse Agbona in Accra at a rally to launch the opposition NPP's election 2012 campaign.
''There is one hitch that I see as we go into the elections in December. Why should the Electoral commission insists on creating 45 new constituencies before the elections? we only have three months to go. The register has already been compiled. The EC must be careful not to plunge this country into chaos because there is no law compelling them the create these new constituencies at such a wrong time. It has the potential to bring trouble, and it is indeed, unreasonable I plead with the Electoral Commission in the name of Ghana to halt the creation of the 45 new constituencies''.
He also asked NPP members to try to convince all people whether they are NDC or CPP and not refuse to talk to people of other political inclinations. He took a swipe at the ruling NDC government in an attempt to project his preferred candidate.
'Not every leader can husband the resources of the nation for wealth creation. The NDC has not been able to do anything with Ghana's resources in three years except to plunder it. They believe in empty slogans like 'social democrats'. The NDC has divided the nation. The NPP will unite the nation. The elections are not about young people against old people. If some people claim they are younger, it is not about that. It is about who can do it. Nana Akufo Addo can do it'.
