NPC clears air on 2012 Paralympics

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA – The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has said the nation will be represented by a ten member delegation at the 2012 London Paralympic Games, fixed for August 29-September 9.

Francis Adjetey Sowah, Acting President of the NPC in a press statement copied to GNA Sports on friday, he said the decision which was taken by the Committee was in conformity with the rules and regulations of the competition.

According to Adjetey Sowah, Ghana could only manage four athletes for the competition, hence by the rules the nation was entitled to a ten man contingent including the athletes, coaches and officials.

He said the NPC has been compelled to strictly apply the rules based on unnecessary scrambling for slots by all manner of stakeholders in the disabled community.

Adjetey Sowah noted that the NPC initially expected a higher number of qualified athletes for the event but this did not materialize, hence their decision to send a limited number of delegates to the event.

He noted that the decision should put to rest all forms of protests and agitations over participation in the competition by various stakeholders and called on all to lend their support to ensure the Team Ghanaian succeeds at the Games.
