Late President Mills' family accepts autopsy report

The late President John Evans Atta Mills' family, nuclear and extended on Monday said it was satisfied with the autopsy report from those with the expertise and competence to carry out such an exercise and make a judgment.

A statement signed by Nana Ato Brew, Abusuapanyin Nkuma-Kyereba Twidan (Abusua of Cape Coast for and on behalf of the Mills and Allied Families of Cape Coast, Ekumfi and Prampram) copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, however, did not give details.

It said the family had been overwhelmed by the spontaneous and deep expressions of sympathy extended to it by so many within the borders of Ghana and beyond, since his death, through the period of mourning and burial.

The statement said the family was grateful to the Government and the people, the Judiciary, Legislature, former Presidents, chiefs and queen-mothers, the Funeral Planning Committee, Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies, the leaderships and members of political parties and religious organizations.

"We are grateful to each and every Ghanaian for the unprecedented outpour of heart-felt sorrow at the passing away of our son. In the same vein, we acknowledge the equal shock with which the international community received and reacted to our sad loss. We are grateful for the highly consoling tributes from leaders across the world and their representation at the funeral."

The statement said, "The Mills' family is consoled that his life-long achievements in fields of academia, sports, politics and humanity have been so widely acclaimed in Ghana, Africa and the world. We are consoled that his life-long vision of tolerance, unity and peace should be the collective bedrock of national and international development has been widely acclaimed upon his passing away".

"Our son was truly a man of peace, asomdweehene. That recognition has dawned on all well-meaning people in Ghana and beyond. In his death, he has brought upon our nation the grace of unity and peace. If he has to be the sacrificial lamb that delivers unity and peace unto this nation, then we are grateful to God for such a blessing." **
