Appointment Committee was wasteful - Ken Agyapong

Contrary to assertions that the Vice Presidents performance at the Appointment Committee on Monday was outstanding, Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has taken members of the committee to the cleaners, describing them as being wasteful on the day.

According to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) firebrand, the committee fell short in asking relevant questions, adding that “it is because most of them are not business inclined”.

Mr. Kennedy Agyapong said this on Okay Fm on Tuesday when sharing his thoughts on the general performance of the Appointment Committee and the Vice President. “As I listened to the questions of my colleagues I felt so bad for the country because it was obvious that most of the members on the committee lacked the business acumen to challenge the figures and explanations Mr. Amissah-Arthur gave,” the MP stated.

To him, the Appointment Committee for once reduced their status by turning what should have been serious parliamentary proceedings to a mere “bed room discussion”.

Mr. Agyapong further accused the Vice President of being responsible for the dwindling economic fortunes of the country, stressing that “he is not competent for the job”.

It was in this direction that the legislature affirmed that if he was a member of the committee he would have exposed the “the rot” Mr. Amissah-Arthur supervised as Governor of the Central bank, adding that he gave conflicting figures when quizzed on the Woyome judgment debt matter.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur on Monday appeared before the Appointment Committee and was unanimously approved and subsequently sworn in as Vice President.

He seized the occasion to pledge his relentless support to President John Dramani Mahama in manning the affairs of the nation, if endorsed by the Parliament, and therefore, thanked the party and the President for the recognition.**
