Ghana Gas Company rehabilitates two bridges

The Ghana Gas Company Limited has rehabilitated two bailey bridges in the Ellembele District at a total cost of about GH?570,000.

Dr. George Adjah Spia Yankey, Chief Executive Officer of the company, said on Monday.

He was briefing the press when he led Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, and Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Deputy Minister of Energy, to inspect the bridges at Essiama and Eikwe.

Dr. Yankey said the bridge at Essiama was rehabilitated at a cost of GH?300,000, whilst the Eikwe bridge cost GH?270,000.

He said the company decided to fund the rehabilitation of the bridges when feasibility studies revealed they were structurally weak and could not carry pipelines and heavy duty machinery and equipment for the Gas Processing Plant at Atuabo.

The rehabilitation works were undertaken by the Ghana Highways Authority, which also took part in the feasibility studies, Dr. Yankey said.

He said, "The rehabilitation was to extend the bridges and strengthen them to facilitate the transportation of pipelines and heavy machinery in order not to hamper the gas processing plant project".

Mr. Aidoo said the rehabilitation works had to be carried out for the Gas Processing Plant Project to go on as planned.**
