Ghana nearly pulled out of Olympics ....

but for Prez Mahama - Humado

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Clement Kofi Humado Thursday night revealed that Ghana was considered withdrawing from the London 2012 Olympic Games following the death of President Mills.

President Mills died on Tuesday, three days before the opening ceremony of the games.

Speaking at the residence of Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in London, Mr. Humado said they were in a quandary until President Mahama gave them the green light to participate in the quadrennial sporting event.

According to him, President Mahama assured the team of the government’s support in Team Ghana's quest to make the nation proud.

Mr. Humado said President Mahama rather urged Team Ghana to go all out and win laurels in honour of the fallen President J.E.A. Mills.

On his part, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Prof. Kwaku Danso Boafo, encouraged the Ghanaian athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games to work hard to raise the flag of Ghana aloft.

The nine athletes and the officials were at the residence of the High Commission in London on Thursday night where they were officially introduced to the Ghanaian community.

But the event took an entirely different twist as most of the Ghanaians turned up in Black and Red attires to mourn the demise of President Mills.

Prof. Danso Boafo encouraged athletes not to allow the unfortunate news to blight their campaign.**
