Chinese President consoles Ghana on death of President Mills

China has expressed its condolences to Ghana following last Tuesday’s death of President John Evans Atta Mills.

A message to President John Dramani Mahama signed by Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China, said he had learned with deep sadness the sudden demise of President Mills.

“On behalf of the Chinese Government and people and in my own name I would like to extend to Your Excellency my deep condolence and sincere sympathy to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana and the bereaved family of H.E. John Evans Atta Mills," the statement said.

The Chinese president described President Mills as “an outstanding leader of the Republic of Ghana”.

Mr. Hu Jintao said President Mills’ presidency endeavored to maintain social stability, promote economic development and safeguard and improve the well-being of the people.

“H.E. John Mills attached great importance to strengthening the traditional friendship between China and Ghana and made significant contributions to the sustainable development of friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between our two countries. We feel deeply sorry and grieved on his unfortunate passing away,” the statement added.

He said the Chinese Government and people greatly cherished the China-Ghana traditional friendship and were willing to make joint efforts with the Ghanaian side to continue to promote the development of their bilateral friendly cooperative relations.
