Govt’s Delay In Payment Of Post- Graduate Thesis And Bursary Grant

With reference to our press release issued on the 12th of April, 2012 captioned “DELAY IN PAYMENT OF THESIS AND BURSAY GRANT (2011/2012) TO POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS IN GHANA”, the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), wishes to register our deepest regret and displeasure at governments default in meeting the 25th April, 2012 deadline. Contrary to the assurance given by the Minister of State in Charge of scholarships at the Office of the President, that payments will be made by Friday, 20th April, 2012 on Radio Universe, Accra, following the first press release aside several other assurances, the money has still not been released. We are now been told that the approved documents for payment of the money is still locked up at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
Taking cognisance of the fact that the academic year of all Universities will end by 26th May, 2012, for the reason that all forms of dialogue and negotiations have proven futile, and the recurring delay in the payment of thesis and bursary grant over the years, GRASAG has been left with no other option than to speak the only language that government seems to understand.
GRASAG hereby serves notice of its intended plan of action emanating from an Emergency Senate meeting held today on the KNUST campus, as follows;
• 2nd May, 2012: Final Press Conference
• 7th May, 2012: “YABR? DEMONSTRATION”
Until the thesis and bursary grants are paid, we will not relent on our efforts to use every legitimate means at our disposal to get what is due us.
Signed
Dr. Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi (National President)
