World Bank supports NYEP with 65 million dollars

Accra, Jan. 6, GNA - Mr Solomon Nii Afutu Quartey, Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), on Friday announced that the World Bank had provided 65 million dollars to support youth enterprises programme this year.

He explained that beneficiaries would be engaged in modern agricultural programmes such as fish farming to make it more attractive to the youth.

Mr Quartey, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, on the bank’s strategic plan for the beneficiaries in 2012, said three districts in the Greater Accra Region had been targeted for the scheme on pilot basis.

On allowances for beneficiaries, Mr Quartey said it was being reviewed for implementation in March this year.

He explained that the allowances were being paid by the Better Ghana Management Service in partnership with NYEP to facilitate new modules, “pay all and credit facilities.”

This is to support beneficiaries in furthering their education, paying utilities, purchasing household materials and they would receive soft loans.

Mr Quartey advised beneficiaries to furnish Regional and District offices of the NYEP with the necessary information so that they could be captured on the payroll system.
