GCB wins Bank of the Year in Ghana award

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has been awarded Bank of the Year in Ghana award in recognition of its strong management skills, sound business model and prudent risk approach for 2010.

The awards programme, organised annually by The Banker Magazine, a publication of the Financial Times Group in the UK, is to reward and promote industry-wide excellence in the global banking community, and banks are judged on their ability to deliver shareholder returns and gain strategic advantage.

A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday said "At the prestigious world-wide Banker Awards programme held on November 30, in London, Uk, GCB emerged the best bank in Ghana in the Country Awards category".

Ms Joyce Atta-Krah, General Manager, Retail Banking Division and Mr John Kweku Duncan, Head of Public Relations Department of GCB received the award on behalf of the bank.

It said the bank was presented with a certificate and a 'Bracken Award'.

This is the second award received by the bank in two months, it was adjudged the Best Bnak Country Category- Ghana 2011 by Global Finance World's Best bank Awards 2011 in October 2011 in the US.

A citation accompanying the award described GCB as “banking partner of choice for those wishing to invest or set up operations in Ghana and West Africa”.

It commended GCB for funding investments in the most capital intensive environments, oil and gas, mining, construction, telecommunications, shipping and agriculture while maintaining modern transactional services.

The statement said almost 60 years of banking experience in Ghana had made GCB the most respected financial institution.
