The Chief Executive Officer for the Medium and Small Loan Centre (MASLOC) Bertha Ansah Djan has described as unfortunate comments making the rounds to the effect that her outfit could have done better in its support to the flood victims at Kokompe a spare parts hub in Accra.

MASLOC per the directive from Vice President John Dramani Mahama disbursed one million cedi to persons who were affected by fire outbreak which destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana Cedi. The Loan was to assuage the loss by the victims.

(I want to clarify a perception out there, because I overheard some radio stations saying ‘’is that all we could give? But what I want them to know is that, we work with the real people and in this we did with the leaders of Kokompe.

We ask them to bring the victims who have been affected by the floods, and they brought the people and wrote the amount each individual would need beside the names.’’ Bertha Ansah Djan said

She explained to Radio Gold in Accra, that the leaders of Kokompe quantified the amount needed by the victims and arrived at one million Ghana Cedi, which MASLOC had already disbursed one Million Ghana cedi ‘’yet people are saying it was small.’’

She indicated that, her outfit could not pay the 1.3 million Cedi outright because her office had realize that, in times of disaster some people over quote their needs-so we have to go to them and through interaction we ascertain how much the victims actually need and if they needed more MASLOC would provide it.

The MASLOC boss said ‘’One Million cedi is not a small money, we are talking about ten billion old Cedi, it’s a lot of money. We came in their aid and we were very timely, I think WE have done well.’’

When asked if the money was for Charity? Mrs. Ansah Djan said, the money was a loan payable one year and two months.

‘’Usually OUR loan re-payment depending on what you are doing especially when you are into buying and selling we give you six months to finish payment. But because of the tragedy they are going through we gave them one year with two months grace period to repay at the rate of 2 % a month. MASLOC boss said.’’
